About this find
The Altamesa 300 from The North Face is a women's light-trail running shoe. The upper is lightweight, seamless engineered mesh with 53% recycled material. A lace-up closure sets the fit, and a pull-tab webbing loop at each heel helps your foot slide in. Each shoe weighs about 8.82 oz., a useful number for runners who watch pack weight on their feet.
Several parts work together to hold your foot in place. Padded collars and heel cups add comfort at the heel, and reinforced internal heel counters add rear-foot stability. Internal stability wings at the third eyelet provide midfoot lockdown. The toe boxes give extra space for the big and pinky toes, while reinforced TPU toe caps and lace guides add durability.
Underfoot, the high-rebound Sole Unit midsole offers moderate cushioning with a 6 mm heel-to-toe drop. Heel stack height is 31 mm and forefoot stack height is 25 mm. A dynamic stability zone at the forefoot is designed to add steadiness on the trail, and SKYCORE rock guards below the forefoot give light, flexible protection from rocks.
The SURFACE CTRL rubber outsole has grippy 4 mm lugs optimized for running on trail terrain. These ankle-height shoes are made for light trails, so they suit dirt paths and gentle off-road routes. Wear the socks you normally run in when you try them on, so the toe box space matches how you will actually run.
