Megabass Magdraft Freestyle 5 in. Swimbait

About this find

The Megabass Magdraft Freestyle 5 in. Swimbait has a snub-nose design and a pre-cut belly with a recessed top-groove, which helps it sit well on a screw-lock hook. It is designed to deliver hard-thumping tail action and active head-shakes, so it looks lively when you reel it in. The shape works for anglers just starting out as well as those who have been fishing for years.

Pair a weighted 4/0 to 6/0 screw-lock hook with the Freestyle when you want to fish submerged vegetation, shade lines, grass lanes and isolated cover. It also suits tule lines, laydowns, slow rolling at different depths and skipping under docks and overhangs. For open water, you might add a blade for extra flash over long retrieves.

If you want to work chunk rock, river ledges or lake drop-offs, try a heavy jighead such as the Magdraft Head. This setup lets you bump bottom contours and fish deeper ranges. You can also try a line-through rigging method when you want to cover open shallows or slip the bait under overhangs.
