The Vertex Alpine GTX is a women's approach shoe made for rock and trail. The upper is CORDURA recycled PES, a lightweight fabric that stands up to abrasion, and it has a PFCec-free DWR treatment that helps water bead off. A toe cap adds protection and abrasion resistance. This is an ankle-height, lace-up shoe, and the pair weighs 1 lb. 8 oz.

A knit collar seals out debris and joins the tongue for a secure, socklike fit. An integrated tongue pocket tucks the laces away so they are less likely to snag or come untied. Inside, a full GORE-TEX waterproof and breathable liner seals out wet and snow, which helps on damp mornings and melting trails.

Underfoot, the midsole is an EVA/polyolefin blend with a tougher abrasion component in the forefoot for scrambling. A TPU shank adds protection and stiffness for stability. The offset is 8 mm, with an 18 mm heel stack and a 10 mm forefoot stack. Sticky Vibram XS Flash 2 outsoles with ergonomically patterned 4 mm lugs are designed to grip while edging and to give traction on the trail, in wet and dry conditions.

Integrated carabiner attachment points make the shoes easy to carry when you clip them to a pack. Clip them to your pack on the hike in and lace up at the base of the rock. They are suited to rock climbing and hiking.
